Cleaning Your Carpet Tiles
You’ll love our carpet tiles for their excellent durability and stunning colours that will last year after year. If you want to keep these qualities for as long as possible, then we recommend keeping a consistent cleaning routine. The best part? Smart maintenance pays off significantly. To help you maximise the lifespan of your modulyss carpet, we’ve put together a few cleaning recommendations.
Choose Your Carpet Tiles Wisely
The long-lasting beauty of a modulyss carpet tile depends on choosing the right quality and colour. In areas with heavy foot traffic, it's better to choose darker colours since they hide dirt better. We also recommend installing at least a 9-meter clean-off zone with durable, dark-coloured, irregular-patterned carpet tiles, preferably made from soil-resistant yarn, at entrances or heavily soiled areas.
Routine Cleaning
Daily maintenance starts with vacuuming using a brush vacuum cleaner, which can remove around 80% of the dirt. It also helps keep the carpet tile’s pile looking good. How often you vacuum depends on foot traffic and dirt, but it should be done at least once a week. Stains should be cleaned right away.
How to Remove Spots
Remove marks on your carpet tiles immediately, as older spots are harder to clean. Use a spoon or spatula for solids, blot liquids with a clean cloth, and always dab the spot gently with a damp cloth. Use pH-neutral cleaners and test an inconspicuous area first.
Removing Water-Based Marks
To remove water-based marks, sprinkle the cleaning agent on the carpet tile, but avoid using it if the carpet leaves a coloured mark on the cloth. Dab the mark with a damp cloth, apply a dry cleaning agent, brush it in, let it dry for 15-30 minutes, and then brush and vacuum the area. Repeat if needed.
Removing Oil-Based Marks
To remove oil-based marks like paint or tar from your carpet tiles, use a specialist carpet stain remover applied to a clean cloth and press it onto the carpet. Avoid using it if the carpet leaves a coloured mark on the cloth. Wipe from the outside of the mark inward, rinse with a damp cloth, let it dry, and follow up with a dry cleaner if needed.
Removing Stubborn Marks
Marks that are hard to remove like rust, varnish, coffee, chewing gum and soft drinks require specialist treatment.
Specialised Maintenance
We recommend doing specialised maintenance 2 to 3 times per year depending on the foot traffic and the soiling of the carpet. There are two ways to do this.
The encapsulation method, using the Smart Care® TRIO System, involves spraying polymer crystals onto the carpet, which encapsulate dirt and dust as the machine brushes it in, allowing for easy vacuum removal. This dry, odourless process is highly effective, leaves no residue, allows immediate carpet use, and is eco-friendly with minimal noise.
The hot water extraction method is a deep cleaning technique that involves applying a water and detergent solution to the carpet, followed by thorough rinsing with pressurised hot water. This method uses a lot of water, may cause odours, risks shrinkage, and requires scheduling for evening or night due to extended drying times and potential noise, and should not be used on modulyss minituft® carpet tiles.
